[Mac-users] Chicken of the VNC clipboard problems

I have been using "Chicken of the VNC" as my VNC client for many
years, and I'm pretty happy with it, but I may be forced to change
soon unless I can sort out the interaction between the remote and
local clipboards. I'm using remote Linux (FC3) and local Mac OS 10.5.4.
A neat feature of this VNC client is that I can select remote text
(simply by highlighting, as is usual under Linux), and then paste it
locally (using the usual Mac OS command-V). That's all fine and dandy,
but the problem is that the remote clipboard continually reasserts
itself in the local clipboard. For example, if I copy text from one
Safari tab and then try to paste it into another, I often find that
I'm pasting the contents of the Linux clipboard instead. I can
mitigate the effect by navigating faster, but I shouldn't have to.
The VNC client has no business overwriting the clipboard contents when
there's been no selection action and the app hasn't even received focus.
I can't find anything in the help or preferences that seems to be
related to this. I may have seen this behaviour occasionally before,
but it seems to have gotten much worse recently. Chicken of the VNC
doesn't seem to have been updated since 2006, and support requests are
lying unanswered.
So, any suggestions for how I fix this? Any recommendation on which
VNC client I should switch to?
Thanks,
Gavin
