[p4dti-discussion] Simplified upgrade procedure question

Hello Ravenbrook, et. al.
I'm currently using P4DTI and Bugzilla together. I usually don't bother
to upgrade one without upgrading the other (I wait until both need to be
upgraded).
The upgrade procedure I'm currently using goes something like this (very
simplified):
1. shutdown P4DTI and Bugzilla
2. remove P4DTI patch from Bugzilla
3. upgrade Bugzilla using CVS commands
4. apply new P4DTI patch on Bugzilla
5. verify
My question is this: is there really a need for the removal of the
previous P4DTI patch? Here's what I was thinking of doing instead:
A. shutdown P4DTI and Bugzilla
B. upgrade Bugzilla using CVS commands ("cvs update -R -C -d
-rBugzilla_Stable")
C. apply new P4DTI patch on Bugzilla
D. verify
In step B, the "-C" parameter for the cvs update command would tell cvs
to throw away the local copy and get the server copy.
The caveat to my modified procedure is that the Bugzilla installation
can only have the P4DTI changes, as all other changes would be lost.
Is there any flaw in my reasoning? Is this an acceptable procedure to
follow?
Thanks
JDG
