Friends recently moved house. Their new house has an unusual property
due to its location: the first four characters of its postcode are the
same as the first four characters of its OS grid reference.

1. How many properties have this property?

2. Are there any properties which share the first *five* characters of
postcode and grid reference?

3. Unfortunately the formats of postcodes prevent six or seven
characters being shared, and postcodes don't have eight characters
(AFAIK). However, common codes for representing digits as letters
(such as 31332 coding) would theoretically allow full postcode/grid
reference sharing (so, e.g. "TS12 3LE" <-> "TS12313").  Do any
properties have this property?

I have /usr/local/share/misc/uk-postcodes, if it would help in
answering these questions.

Caution: time sink

What fraction of a unit square can you cover with N identical
non-overlapping circles?

What's the largest N for which the best-known fraction is *less* than
pi/4?

I found some of the current best-known answers mildly surprising.

For pedants: the circles can be whatever size you like, but must
be entirely within the square.
