As always with a major release of an operating system there are lots of problems. Unless you have a pressing reason to upgrade it is usually worth waiting for the first patch release.

But here you do have a pressing reason to upgrade: you need to collaboratively edit a Pages document. So I wonder if "Pages for iCloud" work for you? It's Apple's version of Google Docs. As I recall you have quite complicated layout requirements for legal documents so it might be too painful, but unlike upgrading to Mavericks, it won't be disastrous if you try it and it doesn't work out for you.
